Shell's Wonderful World of Golf - Volume 19: Bob Goalby and Bob Charles (Video)
Shell's Wonderful World of Golf was a weekly television series that aired from 1962 through 1970 and was the first golf matches ever filmed for a television series. This video is a golf match between Bob Goalby and Bob Charles, played at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club in New Zealand and aired March 24, 1963. The Goalby/Charles match was played in cold, blustery weather. The Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club is a British style links course that sits on the southwest cast of New Zealand's North Island. The course features narrow fairways loaded with pot bunkers and boasts small lightning-fast greens. This challenging layout rewards the good shot, but punishes the bad. Bob Goalby is best known for his victory in the 1968 Masters after Roberto DeVincenzo signed a wrong scorecard. Goalby won 11 PGA Tour events, played on the 1963 Ryder Cup Team and was one of the founding members of the current Senior PGA Tour. The most successful left-handed golfer of all time, Bob Charles has thrilled galleries for thirty years. From winning the 1954 New Zealand Open as an 18 year old amateur, Charles went on to win five PGA Tour events and is still a major force on the Senior PGA Tour. 60 Minutes.
