Shell's Wonderful World of Golf - Volume 17: Chen Ching-Po and Tony Lema (Video)
Shell's Wonderful World of Golf was a weekly television series that aired from 1962 through 1970 and was the first golf matches ever filmed for a television series. This video is a golf match between Chen Ching-Po and Tony Lema played at Kawana Golf Club, in Japan and aired in February 23, 1964, just months before Lema's victory in the British Open. The Fuji Course is one of the two courses at the Kawana Hotel & Golf Club. The championship layout is part of a Japanese pine forest and features elevated trees and tricky diagonal bunkering, making it a strong test for a golfer of any caliber. Chen Ching-Po is one of the greatest golfers to come out of the Republic of China. Though small in stature, Ching-Po won numerous titles around the world and represented his country in 11 World Cup Matches. Champagne Tony Lema received his nickname after treating the media to the beverage upon capturing his first tournament. Lema burst onto the golf scene in 1957 and quickly established himself as a force on the PGA Tour. In his all too short career, he won 11 PGA Tour titles and the 1964 British Open. 60 Minutes.
