Paraiso del Mar, a residential community located in La Paz, Mexico, is proud to announce that it has been listed as one of the “Best New International Courses,” in the January 2010 issue of Golf Magazine. The Arthur Hills-designed course at Paraiso del Mar was unveiled in May 2009.
The par-72, 7,100-yard course is seamlessly woven into the natural surroundings of the peninsula in which it is located. The 18-hole routing is replete with ocotillo cacti, ocean views and an ever-shifting, windswept sea of sand dunes. Paraiso del Mar is currently in the signature program with Audubon International Signature Sanctuary development, golf’s highest environmental standard, to be certified in early 2010.
In company with courses in Scotland, Dominican Republic and Northern Ireland, Paraiso del Mar ranked #4 on the coveted list, which is determined and voted on by the publication’s discerning editors and raters (http://www.golf.com/golf/courses_travel/article/0,28136,1945796,00.html).
“We are thrilled with the honor of being included on such a prestigious list,” said Paraiso del Mar developer John Fair. “It has been our goal since conception to make this course one of the best in the world and the recognition by the editors of Golf Magazine validates our efforts.”
Brian Yoder, the course architect from Ohio-based Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates said, “Creating the course at Paraiso was like throwing down a tablecloth, in one sense. We employed a very light touch, as they did when creating the classic links of Scotland. We did it this way to preserve the existing natural beauty and, from a golfing perspective, we did it because so much of the existing terrain was dramatic enough the way we found it.”
Paraiso del Mar is a semi-private golf club and community. The allure of La Paz, combined with the luxuries of the beach resort lifestyle, has attracted members from the United States, Mexico and beyond. The first phase of the resort community consists of more than 294 two- and three-bedroom homes, and 400+ two, three and four-bedroom condominiums. In addition there are swimming pools, tennis courts, a planned marina and miles of hiking trails and beaches. Home and condominium prices range from the low $200,000’s to more than $1,000,000 USD.
Paraiso del Mar is accessible by car, or by a unique five-minute water taxi ride across the bay from La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur. La Paz is situated on the Sea of Cortez, about a two hour drive from Cabo San Lucas. Unlike its resort-saturated neighbor to the south, La Paz remains a quaint Mexican town where homeowners and visitors can experience a sense of escape and proximity to the local culture.
