Homebuilder Lennar Raises $775,000 To Fight Cancer

he American Cancer Society recently presented Lennar Corporation with the prestigious Grand Visionary Award for its efforts to raise $775,000 for cancer awareness over the course of nine years.

“We are honored to have received this award,” said Michael George, project manager for Lennar’s Virginia Division. “Cancer is a devastating disease, and our goal at Lennar is to continue raising money and awareness so that one day, with everyone’s efforts, there will be a cure.”

For the past nine years, Lennar along with residents in its active adult community, Heritage Hunt in Gainesville, have made it their mission to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

In order to raise money for the American Cancer Society, Lennar and Heritage Hunt residents began a yearly tradition. They organized several fundraisers, all taking place at Heritage Hunt, that include the Lennar Heritage Charity Golf Classic, Casino Night and Silent Auction and a Walk For Cancer, which is open to the public.

“We are grateful for our relationship with Lennar and Heritage Hunt residents,” said Karen Brav, the American Cancer Society’s Development Director. “Lennar and Heritage Hunt residents continue to step up to the plate every year. The fight against cancer is a community fight; we cannot do it alone. Their continued commitment to this cause has been extraordinary.”

Lennar and Heritage Hunt residents are gearing up for their 10th annual charity event where they hope to raise more than $50,000 for the American Cancer Society this year. The Walk for Cancer will take place at Heritage Hunt on September 26 and is open to the public. The fee to participate is $20 with all proceeds benefiting the Society. The Lennar Heritage Charity Golf Classic is scheduled for Thursday, October 1 at Heritage Hunt. The Lennar Heritage Charity Golf Classic is open to residents and sponsors only.

“We are looking forward to these upcoming events. The more money we can raise to help fight cancer, the better,” George said.
