Patriotism on Display at Timberlake's Golf Event
TUESDAY, 29 JULY 2008
LAS VEGAS - As part of the PGA TOUR's ongoing commitment to honor the brave men and women of our military and their families, the 2008 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is proud to offer free admission to active, retired, and reserve military personnel from all five branches - including Reservists and members of the National Guard - and their families at the 26th annual Las Vegas tournament. Military personnel and their families will receive complimentary access to the tournament at TPC Summerlin throughout the week - October 13 – 19, 2008 by presenting their Military IDs at the entrance gates. A variety of special services and activities will be offered, including a hospitality chalet located on the scenic 18th fairway providing complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages for military guests. Additional patriotic activities will be announced at a later date.
Military personnel are also being sought to serve as tournament volunteers in a variety of capacities ranging from golf cart distributors, parking attendants, walking scorers, and standard bearers to lead board coordinators, shuttle drivers, player registration volunteers, corporate hospitality assistants, and other committees. Military personnel will be exempt from paying the traditional $40 fee for the volunteer package, which covers the cost of the volunteer's official tournament hat, golf shirt and jacket. Each volunteer will also receive complimentary meals during each shift they work, a weeklong tournament badge, and a ticket to the volunteer kickoff party. Combined with the volunteer uniform, this package has a retail value of over $200.
"We are honored to show our appreciation to the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families by inviting them to serve as our special guests during the 2008 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open," said Gary Davis, executive tournament chairman. "We are also pleased to extend an invitation for military personnel to join one of our volunteer committees. This is a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the players, as well as gain insight and experience in assisting in the operation of a large-scale event of this caliber with a long, rich tradition in Las Vegas."
