Austin, Texas - The Highland Park teams of Alabama got the 4A boys and girls golf titles last Tuesday in the state tournament held at Jimmy Clay Golf Course. Ryan O’Rear of Salado defended his individual title and led his team to the Class 2A title. The 2A girls also did well with a team total of 655.
The Highland Park boys were consistent winners from 2000 to 2006, but finished second last year. This year proved to be one of their best as both girls and boys were able to take home the trophy. The Highland Park girls' latest win was in 2000. This year's title proved that they are back in the winning circle.
Shelby Hardy of San Saba finished with a medalist honor, scoring an even-par total of 142, while Cody Gribble earned his share as well with a second straight 2- under 70. The Huntsville team took the silver medal.
The Highland Park girls were able to stop the winning streak of the Montgomery girls' team which has won seven Class 4A titles in a row. The Highland Park girls finished the game with a total of 641 points, Montgomery with 650, and Lake Travis at 675.
