2008 NCAA West Regional Championship Kicks Off

East Lansing, Michigan - The Michigan State women’s golf team will play at the 2008 NCAA West Regional Championships. This will be held at Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Lincoln, California. The 54-hole qualifying event for the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship will showcase the Spartans team - their 10th straight participation in the competition.
Head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll relates to news reports that they have been preparing for the competition during the whole season. The team is aiming to be in the top eight to vie for the national championships. The Spartans are currently ranked by Golfweek/ Sagarin performance index on the 17th spot among the 21 schools competing for the nationals.
Among the players in the nationals is the experienced Sara Brown, a senior and the 22nd ranked collegiate golfer as referred by Golfweek/ Sagarin performance index. Brown led her team during her sophomore and freshman year with a tie for the 19th and 20th spot respectively. Junior qualifier Holly Niederkohr also participated in two seasons, emerging in the 34th spot. Also included in the Spartan team are senior Jordy Wells, sophomore Laura Kueny, and freshman Aimee Neff. Brown and Kueny are First Team All-Big Ten selections, while Neff is a second team choice.
The Spartans finished at sixth place of the top eight finishers during the season which qualified them for the NCAA Championships. The top eight teams in the competition will head to the 27th NCAA Championship on May 20-23 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
