Golf Takes on a New Spin

Is golf getting too hard on your wallet? Is Ultimate Frisbee getting too hard on your body?
Disc golf might just be the thing for you.
The game is a lot like regular golf, though instead of using clubs to get a ball to the hole in the fewest strokes, you toss a plastic disc around the course to get it into a metal basket in the fewest number of tosses.
The sport is steadily gaining recognition among suburbanites looking for a cheap yet fulfilling way to enjoy the outdoors.
Disc golf got its start in the 1970s with object golf, in which players tossed discs toward objects such as trees or bushes designated as baskets, former Professional Disc Golf Association David Bryne said. The first official disc golf course was built in Pasadena, Calif., and the sport spread east from there, he said.
