Wie to Play in the John Deere Classic this July
THURSDAY, 24 MAY 2007
Michelle Wie will be playing in the John Deere Classic as announced last Tuesday.
Wie has accepted a sponsor's exemption to play in the professional golf event, which will be held on July. Wie has played in the event twice. Wie missed the cut in 2005. If she had made the cut, she would have been the first woman to enter a PGA Tour event. Last year, she withdrew from the game due to heat exhaustion during the second round.
"I am really happy to be returning to the John Deere Classic," Wie said. Wie, who has been recovering from wrist injury, will be returning to competitive golf by playing in the LPGA's Ginn Tribute next week. The John Deere Classic is the second PGA Tour event for Wie this season. Last January, she participated in the Sony Open. However, she missed the cut by 14 strokes. Wie has not yet won a PGA Tour event.
