Report Shows Golf's Huge Economic Impact in VA

TUESDAY, 22 MAY 2007

Findings of an independent study by the Virginia Golf Council (VGC) show that the golf industry in the state of Virginia generated $3.1 billion which is larger than what industry representatives have previously estimated.

According to the report, the Virginia golf industry generated around 40,000 jobs for local residents, $1.6 billion in direct economic output, $984.4 million in salaries and wages in the state economy and $678.5 million in hospitality and tourism. Aside from huge economic impacts on the state, the report also shows that the golf industry offers positive environmental effects.

VGC is composed of the Virginia Golf Course Superintendents Association, the Middle Atlantic PGA Section, the Virginia State Golf Association, the Virginias Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America and the Virginia Turfgrass Council.
