iTRAINING for the Perfect Swing
TUESDAY, 29 MAY 2007
Thousands of books have been written about the swing and how to perfect it, but the main problem has always been in communication: how to integrate the guidelines written in a book, or the advice of a coach, into your own game.
The iTrainer Golf System may just be the solution.
Insight-sports.com has recently been developing this automated swing analysis and correction system. Its main component is a Sports Motion Capture Device (SMCD) that you attach to the shaft of your club. Using a combination of solid-state gyroscopes, magnetometers and accelerometers, the SMCD captures and measures your swing in three dimensions. It then relays this information via Bluetooth to a PDA which contains the needed software, which then provides audio feedback to the wireless headset. The user can then input information to the system using simple movements of the club or voice commands.
At a negligible 80 grams, the SMCD ensures that the club will have the same “feel” whether the device is attached or not, possibly it’s most important characteristic.
There is never only one optimum swing, as any golfer knows. The iTrainer incorporates a range of swing profiles for golfers, whether recreational, amateur or professional. Profiles can be added and altered on a computer.
Real-time feedback, iTrainer points out, is proven as one of the more, if not the most effective way to improve technique and muscle memory, consequently lowering your handicap.
