Ochoa Wins Safeway International
TUESDAY, 27 MARCH 2007
Lorena Ochoa snagged her 10th LPGA Tour victory last Sunday when she won the Safeway International at the Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club in Arizona. She finished with an 18-under-par to lead second-placer Suzann Pettersen by two shots.
The Mexican Ochoa almost lost the victory in the final round. She was leading by four strokes at the beginning of the fourth but Pettersen made a run of birdies early on to come close by just two shots. With her Norwegian opponent threatening her lead, Ochoa said she just tried to keep herself patient under the pressure.
Her patience paid off because she was able to hang on to the lead until the last hole. Ochoa went home with $225,000 making her the current leader of the LPGA's Official Money List.
