In this week's Golf Tips, Rick Martino advises golfers of today to look into the past so they can form a new understanding of the game today. This is the first of the series of articles that he will be writing which he hopes will somehow connect the game of today with past traditions.
The first instalment of the said series talks about PGA Champion Jim Barnes' technique in general. According Martino, Barnes style best exemplifies the stroke of the era when he won the PGA Championships in 1916 and 1919. Aside from that, his shot provides great insight to the, "development of the strokes of today's top players."
To show the connection between the past and the present, Martino compares the shots of Barnes and Phil Mickelson. The PGA's Director of Instruction illustrates how a good technique can still be relevant in a modern setting.
