China Probes Officials' Golf Club Memberships
MONDAY, 29 JANUARY 2007
The Chinese government has recently been urged to probe golf club memberships in the country. It is to make sure that public servants aren’t using the government’s money to pay for the expensive membership fees. This is according to the report by the Reuters dated Friday.
The proposal came from Wang Yushi, a member of China’s political advisory body. He said that despite the cost, it is uncommon for officials who have medium-sized salaries to be seen in golf clubs.
This recent development is connected to the China’s crackdown on corruption. It is currently one of the main problems facing the country.
