Casey is European Tour Golfer of the Year
WEDNESDAY, 13 DECEMBER 2006
Englishman Paul Casey was named this year's European Tour Golfer of the Year after a string of victories in the international scene, including a key role in this year's Ryder Cup. This is according to the European Tour's official website, www.europeantour.com.
But winning the award didn't come easy for the 29-year-old golfer. He had to battle with the likes of Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, and Darren Clarke for the top spot before he finally prevailed. However, Harrington edged him out to deprive him of another prestigious award, the Order of Merit. Casey said he was, "bitterly disappointed," that he didn't win it. But in the end, that is overshadowed by the fact that he was given the honor of being called Europe's finest golfer. Aside from that, he will also be remembered for closing out the match in this year's Ryder Cup with a hole in one, a first for the competition. Surely it will take a while before anyone matches that feat.
