Yang Scores Upset Vs. Woods

TUESDAY, 14 NOVEMBER 2006

Korean golfer Yong-eun Yang scored an upset Monday against Tiger Woods at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China. He finished with 14-under 274 to capture the victory. Meanwhile, Woods settled for a second place finish with a 12-under. Tied at third place are Michael Campbell and Retief Goosen who trailed Woods by one shot.

Yang's victory seemed to give him confidence to play in more tournaments outside Asia. During an interview, he expressed his plans to play in more tournaments in Europe, the United States and Japan. Before his win on Monday, Yang was a regular at the Japan Golf Tour and rarely competed outside Asia.

Aside from convincing him to compete more regularly against golf's biggest names, Yang is also $883,000 richer. Furthermore, he got moved up 39 places in the world's golf rankings. He is now currently No. 38 while Woods remains at the top spot.
