Longest Drive Set on Wednesday
MONDAY, 20 NOVEMBER 2006
Wednesday will mark a historic event in the world of space travel and golf. Cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin will be hitting what is dubbed as the longest drive ever.
Tyurin will be hitting the golf ball on the tee placed on top of the Russian space station's docking port. After the cosmonaut tees off, the ball is expected to orbit around the earth. The event's sponsor, Element 21, said that it will go around orbit for three years. On the other hand, NASA said that it will only do so for three days.
The attempt is reminiscent of Alan Shephard's tee off on the moon where he said the ball travelled for miles and miles because of the low there.
