Golf Shot Pushes Through After Delays
MONDAY, 27 NOVEMBER 2006
After almost two hours of delays, the golf shot in outer space finally pushed through last Wednesday. Mikhail Tyurin of the Russian space agency hit the ball with one hand aboard their space station. He was aided by astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria. After hitting the shot, Tyurin was quoted as saying that the ball went "pretty far" and that he had an excellent shot.
The event was funded by golf club maker, Element 21 to add to the funds of the cash-strapped Russian space agency.
After the golf shot, Tyurin and Lopez-Alegria went on to perform work-related tasks including deploying a measuring instrument to space as well as relocating a communications antenna.
