Palmer Announces Retirement
MONDAY, 16 OCTOBER 2006
Legendary golfer Arnold Palmer has recently expressed his plans to retire from tournament golf, ending a career that spanned half a century.
However, Palmer isn’t giving up playing golf entirely. Instead, he said that he will still be playing father-son tournaments and in charity events, but not the kind of tournaments that made him famous.
Palmer gained fame in the late 50s and 60s when he won a total of seven major championships. His combination of talent, good looks and overall charisma made him the game’s first television star.
The World Golf hall of famer wasn’t only good at playing golf but in the businesses related to the game. He owns a number of golf courses and helped co-found the Golf Channel. With that and his other achievements, Palmer has already cemented his place in golf’s illustrious history.
