Golf is Coming to China
FRIDAY, 20 OCTOBER 2006
It’s official - golf is finally coming to China. According to www.pga.com, officials of the PGA of America have met recently with Chinese officials to discuss how the PGA can help in the development of the game in the Asian country.
The meeting which was held in Beijing involved PGA’s CEO Joe Steranka and Zhang Ziaoning, China’s director general of the Multi-Ball Games Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport.
The focus of the discussion was on how the PGA can help in the growing game in China by training the first generation of Chinese golf professionals.
But this move maybe unpopular to some people in China. Just last Tuesday, the Xiamen University was severely criticized by some for making golf compulsory for their management, law, economics, and software engineering students so they could, "achieve their elite ambitions," later in life. Alex Jin of the Center for International Education Group called the move, "rather vulgar."
