Team Europe Wins Ryder Cup
MONDAY, 25 SEPTEMBER 2006
It has been an upsetting weekend for Team USA as they lost for the third straight time to the combined talents of Team Europe in this year's Ryder Cup in Straffan, Ireland.
Not even Tiger Woods' best Ryder Cup performance was enough to lift his team out of the mire they found themselves in. The world's number one player scored a 3 which is a half-point better than his score in 2002.
To make things worse, what a lot of people did not expect happened. Europe matched its largest margin of the competition when they won with a score of 18 ½ to 9 ½.
But things could have been worse.
If Paul McGinley did not concede the putt at the 18th hole to J. J. Henry, the European team could have won by a larger margin and thus, a record win. For that, Henry praised McGinley and called him a, "gentleman, obviously."
Team USA's captain Tom Lehman was as much of a gentleman as his European counterparts. After the competition, Lehman only had praises for Team Europe. He said that their opponents, "played incredibly well," and that he thinks that there isn't a European team that has, "ever played better."
