Micheel Ends Woods' Winning Streak
FRIDAY, 15 SEPTEMBER 2006
Tiger Woods' streak of five consecutive wins ended yesterday at the first round of the HSBC World Match Play in Virginia Water, England. The 15th-seeded Shaun Micheel beat the second-seeded Woods with a score of 4 and 3.
Woods was clearly upset by the loss when he was quoted as saying that he does not think one is ever excited when one loses. Because of that, he said he plans to work out and let the frustration out of his bad performance. On Monday, the rest of the entire US team in which Woods is a member, arrives at Dublin, Ireland for the Ryder Cup.
But Woods wasn't the only golf great who lost his match yesterday. Names like Jim Furyk, Retief Goosen and Ernie Els, were scratched from the list of players advancing to the second round after losing to their respective opponents.
The second round of the competition happens today. Eight golfers will be battling for the 1 million-pound ($1.87 million) prize, the biggest prize in golf.
