Tiger Woods is on a roll right now. After winning the British Open last month, he won the Buick Open, the PGA Tour this month and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational yesterday thus stretching his winning streak to four.
He almost failed to defend his crown at the Firestone Country Club after a poor performance in the third round last Saturday. Woods shot four straight bogeys during that bad spell and ended up with a 1-over par into the final round. Stewart Cink took a solo lead and seemed as if he was about to regain the championship that he won two years ago.
Woods put up a good fight the whole day yesterday but Cink wasn't about to give in. At the end of the round, both golfers were tied at 10-under 270. They eventually had to go on a playoff round which stretched the game further to four holes. When the smoke cleared at the fourth, Woods was left standing with a one shot lead over Cink.
The victory was a great way to cap an already special day for the defending champion. It was 10 years ago in the same day when the young Tiger Woods announced that he was turning pro. A decade later, he continues to dominate the game with 52 career wins and 12 major championships.
