Glasgow Plans to Include Golf in Commonwealth Game
FRIDAY, 28 JULY 2006
Scotland, led by its sports minister Patricia Ferguson, is planning to include golf in the 2014 Commonwealth Games' program of events if Glasgow wins its bid for hosting the event. This is according to the report written by Mike Aitken at www.sport.scotsman.com.
If the Scottish city wins its hosting bid and golf is included in the program, then it will be played in the Games for the first time in 84 years.
But others criticized Ferguson saying that the inclusion of golf may dilute the success of the Ryder Cup which is going to be held there after the Games. She responded by saying that the two events would work very well together. By hosting the two competitions, she said that she hopes, “to show Scotland can host the biggest events in the world.”
