Ben Curtis ended his three-year drought by winning the Booze Allen Classic at the TPC Avenel in Potomac, Maryland yesterday. It was his first victory in three years after he won the 2003 British at the Royal St. George's. Meanwhile, it was the first Tuesday finish for the tournament in 26 years, the last one being the 1980 Tucson Open.
Curtis led most of the way in the tournament which lasted for six days because it was cancelled on Monday due to incessant rains. But the six-year pro almost lost his opportunity when he hit a pair of bogeys in the last two holes of the final round. In spite of that, he managed to finish with a 20-under par and had a five-shot lead over Billy Andrade, Padraig Harrington, Nick O'Hearn and Steve Stricker who were all tied at second.
To complete the top ten finishers, Ben Cane, Jeff Cove and Brett Quigley formed the trio of sixth placers while Daniel Chopra and Robert Allenby were tied at ninth place.
