Morgan Leads 1st Round of Senior PGA with 66
FRIDAY, 26 MAY 2006
Gil Morgan shot a 66 to lead the first round of the 67th Senior PGA Golf Championship at the Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma. The 59 year-old Morgan who is a native of Edmond said that playing in his hometown is, "obviously a plus." His total of 6 birdies, 11 pars and a single bogey are indeed proof of that advantage.
Peter Jacobsen, meanwhile, trails Morgan by a shot with a 67. After them are Jay Haas, Tom Watson and Loren Roberts who are all tied at 3rd place. Last year's champion Mike Reid is currently tied at 20th place along with 14 other players who shot a 71.
With a round down, there are three more to go in this year's competition which will be held from May 25 to 28. This year's winner will be taking home $360,000 while the second and third placers will get 216,000 and 136,000 dollars, respectively.
