Herron Ends 7-Year PGA Slump
TUESDAY, 23 MAY 2006
Tim Herron finally overcame his seven-year PGA Tour slump by winning the playoff against Richard Johnson at the Bank of America Colonial last Sunday. It was the first time Herron won a PGA Tour since his last victory at the 1999 Bay Hill Invitational.
Both Herron and Johnson shot 12-under-par 268 in the tournament which forced them to a playoff. Herron prevailed in the extra holes by hitting a birdie on the second hole. He admitted that winning the tournament was easy. But that would not matter now that he is already wearing the winner’s plaid jacket that is synonymous with the tournament.
With the win, Herron took home the $1.08 million prize. Meanwhile, Rod Pampling settled for a solo third place while Stephen Ames, Ben Crane and company were tied at fourth.
The tournament is held annually at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas and is the longest running event on the PGA Tour still being held at the original site.
