Haas Wins First Career Major
WEDNESDAY, 31 MAY 2006
Jay Haas scored a double upset last Sunday at the Senior PGA Championship at the Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond Oklahoma. The first one was on Brad Bryant who lost to Haas on the playoff wherein they had to shoot 3 more holes before the game was finally decided. Both golfers scored 279 by the end of the 18th hole which sent them to a playoff battle.
The second upset was at the expense of Gil Morgan. Morgan was the tournament favorite, mostly because the tournament was held in his home course. The Edmonton local managed to lead in the first round of the tournament. He led by a shot into the final round but somehow got out of sync, eventually landing on third place.
With his victory, Haas scored not just a pair of upsets but also his first career major. Along with that is $360,000 prize. Bryant, meanwhile won $216,000 and Morgan is $136,000 richer.
