Mickelson's Year?
WEDNESDAY, 12 APRIL 2006
What happened in Augusta a few days ago seemed like a deja vu of last year's Masters tournament. It was an image of the same two men wearing green jacket. Tiger Woods was still wearing a red shirt while Phil Mickelson wore a black one just like last year. But this time, it is Woods helping Mickelson put on his green jacket. That's because, as every avid golf fan already knows, Mickelson won this year's Masters for his second victory in Augusta.
With his victory, Mickelson moved from number four to being the world's second-ranked golfer, just next to Woods. He consequently nudged down Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen a rank lower. What's next? It's too early to predict if he is going to end this year by winning a Grand Slam but some are already willing to bet that he will. If he does win all four majors, then he will be the first golfer since Woods' victory in 2000-2001 to achieve it. Whatever happens, it's safe to say that Mickelson has proven his mettle and will be a major contender in this year's coming tournaments.
