Baddeley Wins Verizon Heritage
WEDNESDAY, 19 APRIL 2006
Australian golfer Aaron Baddeley won his first PGA Tour victory with his win at the Verizon Heritage last Sunday. With that win, he skipped 121 places to become number 78 in the world rankings. The 25 year-old Baddeley became the fourth Aussie to win the event along with Graham Marsh, Greg Norman and last year's winner, Peter Lonard.
Meanwhile, Jim Furyk lost to Baddeley by one shot to settle for the second place. He attributed the loss to Baddeley's better performance at, “knocking in putts.” By finishing second, Furyk moved to one spot up in the world's rankings from number 8 to number 7, trading places with the former number 8, David Toms. Furyk follows Sergio Garcia, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, who are at the sixth to first places, respectively.
Vaughan Taylor and Billy Mayfair were tied at the third spot by hitting 13-under-par 271. They were followed by Brett Quigley and Jerry Kelly who were then tied at 5th.
