22 Year-Old Scores Upset Against Sorenstam
THURSDAY, 27 APRIL 2006
South Korean golfer Sungh Ah Yim stole thunder from Annika Sorenstam when the latter slumped in the final round of Florida's Natural Charity Championship last Sunday, April 23. It was so frustrating for Sorenstam that she decided that forget about the game as soon as possible.
Sorenstam shot 66, 69 and 64 in the first three rounds to take on the lead. However, she shot a dismal 75 in the final round to drop one notch and share the second place with Cristie Kerr and Karrie Webb. With that, Yim managed to take a two-stroke lead and win this year's Natural Charity Championship. She finished with 272 while Sorenstam, Kerr and Webb finished with 274 strokes. With the win, Yim took home $210,000 while Sorenstam and company went home with $96,775.
The win is the South Korean's first LPGA Tour victory. Aside from that, it is her best outing of the year so far after finishing 32nd in the Safeway International, 56th at the Kraft Nabisco Championship last March and 61st in the LPGA Takefuji Classic last April 13-15.
With a total of $247,676 in earnings for this year, Yim is currently 8th in the money list while Sorensam is 5th with a total of $349,456 so far.
