Tiger Woods' Mind Out Off the Green for Now
FRIDAY, 24 MARCH 2006
Tiger Woods' mind has been off the green much of the time lately even as as he is currently playing on this year's The Players Championship (TPC) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. It is with his father, Earl Woods, who is hundreds of miles away in Cypress, California where the elder Woods is battling prostate cancer.
Woods even considered withdrawing from the TPC and may consider not playing in the Masters two weeks from now. “Who knows? It all depends on how my father is doing,” according to Woods.
The elder Woods, who is a retired lieutenant colonel for the US Army, has been a great influence to getting the younger Woods into golf. It was Earl Woods who taught him to swing the golf club as a young kid as well as the other fundamentals that helped make him currently the world's No. 1 golfer. Whether he'll still have the same ranking after this or be beaten to it by Vijay Singh is the least of his worries now. Just as he said about his conversation with his father the last time he visited him, “It's not about me hitting golf shots. It's about him,” referring to his father.
