Basic Ways to Play Golf
There are two Basic Ways to Play Golf in tournaments and matches: Match Play or Stroke Play. The goal is still the same in both variations: to knock the ball into the hole with the fewest strokes possible. Both variations are used in matches between two players and big and small tournaments.
Match Play
This kind of Golf Tournament is played by either one Golfer or a team of Golfers playing against one or more others. The team or golfer who hits the ball into the hole with the least number of Golf Shots. wins the Hole and the team or golfer with the most number of Holes won at the end of the 18 holes has won the match. The Golf Match winner is decided when a Golfer or team of Golfers won more holes than there are holes left to play. If Golfers get the same score in a hole, that hole is halved. if they get a tied score at the end of a Golf Match, it is halved and the game may continue. The first player or team to win a Hole is then the winner.
Stroke Play
In Stroke Play, the Golfer who hits the fewest number of total strokes wins the competition. Professional Golf Tournaments use Stroke Play for a total of 72 holes or four rounds of Golf. A playoff is used to break ties. In the playoff, the golfers play until one of them scores lower on a single hole. In some tournaments, ties are broken by using an 18-hole playoff.
Note: The only difference between the two is the way scores are tallied. For the Match Play, your scores are counted per hole and you win per hole. For the Stroke Play, you have to finish the entire round and tally your scores for all the holes.
