Golf Clubs - Woods

Golf Clubs - Woods Wood Golf Clubs are called Woods because they use to be made of persimmon. Manufacturers nowadays, however, use titanium or steel to make these woods. The basic Golf Bag includes three Woods: the Driver, the Three-Wood and the Five-Wood. Woods are designed for long, less-accurate shots. The Driver is made for making the Tee-Shot but you could also use a Three-Wood for Driving. The other Woods, on the other hand, are designed for Shots made from the Fairway that is why these Woods are also called Fairway Woods.

Driver
Drivers are the largest of all the Golf Clubs you will find in any Golf Bag. This Club is designed with only about 9 degrees of loft and can hit the ball to the farthest distance. This Golf Club is used in the Tee-Box to hit the ball closest to the Green as possible. However, for beginner Golfers, it will best to use less Club to get better control of the Shots and keep out of trouble.

Fairway Woods
The Fairway Woods have smaller Clubheads than your Driver. These Woods may also be used to tee off especially by beginners. Their smaller clubheads make them easier to control than the Driver. There are other Woods available but the most commonly used woods are the Three and Five Woods.

Characteristics of Woods
  • Woods are the Golf Clubs with the longest shaft.
  • These clubs are designed for long shots, like a shot from the Tee-box or the Fairway, with less accuracy.
  • Higher number Woods are more accurate and have more loft, while lower number clubs will hit the ball farther and with less loft.
  • The Driver or one-wood is termed as the "Big Dog", being the largest club in the bag. This is used when hitting the ball from the tee and is designed to hit the ball long distance with low trajectory.
  • The Driver only has nine or ten degrees of Loft.
  • The 3-Wood has an approximate distance of 200 yards and the 5-Wood has around 180 yards.
  • Hitting with the Woods require you to sweep up at the ball.

These are the characteristics of the Golf Club Woods and its features. We hope that this article can help you use these information for your own advantage.
