Golf Clubs - Irons

Golf Clubs - Irons The Golf Club Irons are typically composed of the Pitching wedge, the Sand wedge and Irons number 3-9. Iron Golf Clubs are not really made of Iron. They are mostly made of steel or a stronger metal - Titanium. Irons are designed for short, accurate Golf Shots. The Pitching Wedge and a Nine-Iron are the best choices to deal with a Buried Lie and making a shot from a Hardpan. The Sand Wedge, on the other hand, is used to deal with a Fried-Egg Lie and other nasty lies. Sand Wedges are also designed for Shots made from the Bunker or a Sand Trap. Mid-Irons are best used in the Rough while longer Irons may also be good in Bunkers.

Golf Irons Characteristics
  • Irons are used for shorter shots with greater accuracy
  • Shafts get shorter as the number on the sole gets higher
  • Irons have higher lofts, they make the ball fly high with less roll
  • The Sand Wedge, with a standard size of 34-inches, is the shortest Club in the Golf Bag
  • The Sand Wedge has a loft of about 56 degrees
  • Wedges are often termed as money clubs by professional golfers because they help them win a Tournament. signifying their importants
  • Taking a stroke with the Irons requires you to hit down on the ball.
  • Most Irons have cavity back that enhances the workability and consistency of your shots.
  • Most Irons used now are cast Irons. These are Clubs that are larger and more forgiving but most golfers complain that it is hard for them to make the ball intentionally curve left or right using these irons.
  • Irons have a relatively sharply rounded leading edge.
  • Some golfers use the Lob wedge which has more loft than the Sand Wedge. This is designed to make the ball fly even higher.

Irons may either have a muscle back or a cavity back. Muscleback Irons are blade style Irons. The cavity back Irons, have a thin face and a hallowed area on the back. This area distributes the weight around the Perimeter (perimeter weighting) to help you when you mishit.
