Golf Etiquette
Golf is a social game, so minding your manners in the Golf Course is a must. You wouldn't want to make yourself the laughingstock by wearing the wrong Golf Clothes. In this section, you will learn the basics of Golf Etiquette that will help you as you move around the Golf Course.
- Dress Code
Check the Dress Code of the Golf Club where you will play since most Golf Clubs operate with a strict dress code. For most, collared shirts like tennis or polo, are acceptable. The acceptable Golf Attire varies for each season but the following clothes will surely save you from becoming the object of objection:
- For Men - Golf shirt or Polo shirt, long pants, khakis or slacks, socks, proper Golf Shoes
- For Women - Golf Shirt or Polo Shirt, knee-length shorts/culottes or pants, ankle-high socks, proper Golf Shoes
- Keep the Pace.
Don't keep the other players waiting for you. Keep the pace. Know when to stop struggling on a difficult Putt and try again on the next hole. Certainly Golf Beginners have to respect senior and more experienced players and try not to be a burden. Your time will come!
- Leave no Trace.
Leave the Golf Course the same way you found it. Replace Divots and rake Bunkers. You will appreciate it if the one who played Golf before you did the same.
- Control your Emotions.
Golf is just a game. It can be frustrating to play a Bad Shot, have your ball in a Golf Hazard or in a bad lie. But remember, it is more frustrating not to be able to play at all because of broken Golf Clubs or because of a club ban. Watch your language and control your emotions. Take good care of your Golf Equipment and do not throw them away or smash them into the ground after a bad drive or failed bunker safe.
- Keep Quiet when others are Playing.
Good Golf takes a lot of concentration. It is courtesy to the other player to keep quiet when someone is preparing himself or making a golf swing.
- Do not Block.
Don't ever step on the Putting Green in front of your partner. This will create alterations on the ground which might ruin the putt. Do not walk in front of someone who is about to take a swing. Do not block the ball or stand in the way in any manner.
- Fore!
'Fore' is the official warning shout in golf. A player should never fail to shout fore at the top of his or her lungs even when the risk of the ball hitting another player is minimal. You should always protect yourself when you hear this warning shout. Your head and face are most vulnerable so you will want to protect those with your hands.
It is always helpful to know the proper way to behave and dress up when playing Golf. These are some of the basics of Golf Etiquette. Keep them in mind and be sure to follow them when you go practice Golf.

I have a neighbor that was hit violently with a golf ball due to careless thought. So please before you tee off or hit your next shot... make sure the way is clear because everyone has feelings...even greenskeepers. :)
